Registration is required in order to receive MCLE credit.

Topic:  Advance Directives of the LGBTQ and Community: Security. Affirmation, and Self- Determination for Queer Futures. (1.0 Diversity & Inclusion CLE Credit anticipated).

The presentation discusses and positions advance directives, especially the Illinois Power of Attorney for Health Care, as a radical tool for self-determination for LGBTQ+ individuals receiving medical care. This presentation offers an overview of available advance directives in Illinois and discusses how they can be used by LGBTQ+ individuals to protect loved ones, ensure gender-affirming care and treatment in life and death, and ensure mental health treatment preferences are respected. Included is an example and discussion of draft language transgender clients might include in a Power of Attorney for Health Care to ensure gender-affirming treatment.
